In a Time (When I Had Freedom)

In a time when i had freedom, free to change my mind
i felt the curse of freedom, freedom was so blind
alone i rose to walk the streets of London’s wonderland
to rest my head and my feet by late night coffee stands

and viewed the moon so blindly in the splendour of my sight
in the darkness of a dying dream my heart was set alight
i heard the cries from the lost souls stripped from their streets so grand
and forgot how things look familiar to strangers in forgein lands

the sun would beat upon the street where i would wait and watch
a distant crowd of strangers meet ‘neath the ticking of the clock
aloud i cried it’s not for you! The light is mine to see
and won’t be blinded like the fool who tries but cannot be

slow the nights were passing as i lay down on my bed
heard the angels singing sweet music in my head
aloof in crowds so distant when i turned to take her hand
the silence said ‘resistance is the sword of modern man’

and now much time has passed, all that’s been is gone
i look to the future and i know the road is long
and still i dream of you and what you brought to me
a love so blind it gave me freedom to see

in a time when i had freedom, free to change my mind
i felt the curse of freedom, freedom was so blind
